Israeli occupation deprives 2,872 students of in-person education in 66 schools in Hebron

The closures by the Israeli occupation authorities and the military siege imposed on areas in the city of Hebron and its surroundings have disrupted in-person education in dozens of schools, forcing thousands of students into educational assignment systems and remote learning.

According to data from the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, received from the Hebron Directorate of Education, 66 schools were directly affected by these measures during the fourth week of this October, impacting 2,872 male and female students, including 2,198 students under direct siege and 674 forcibly displaced students who were unable to reach their classrooms.

The repercussions also affected 119 male and female teachers, including 98 under siege and 21 displaced, in addition to six administrative and support staff, including two educational counselors, two school vice-principals, and two school janitors.

The data explained that the closure of the entrances to the city of Hebron and the vicinity of the Deir Bahah and Al-Jalda areas, along with repeated incursions, led to the shift from in-person education to the educational assignment and remote learning system from Sunday to Thursday.

The Hebron Directorate of Education stated that the total number of students deprived of in-person education in the Hebron Governorate during the mentioned week reached about 80,000 male and female students.

The Israeli occupation forces continue their aggression on the Hebron Governorate for the seventh consecutive day, while continuing to besiege and close the Al-Jalda and Deir Bahah areas in the city of Hebron, coinciding with raids on Palestinian homes and the destruction of their contents.

The number of families affected by the aggression has risen to more than 780, while about 5,000 Palestinians face conditions of siege and forced displacement, whether by being forced to flee their homes or being trapped inside them, especially in the Al-Jalda and Deir Bahah areas, which have been under a strict siege and closure since last Friday.

Since the start of its aggression, the occupation forces have arrested more than 115 Palestinians, including one girl, while detaining hundreds of Palestinians and subjecting them to abuse.
