Israeli army shoots a Palestinian and runs over 4 in the West Bank

On Tuesday evening, the Israeli army opened fire and wounded a young Palestinian man near the city of Ramallah in the central West Bank.

It also ran over three others near Jenin (north), arrested a foreign activist, and detained five Israeli activists for several hours south of the city of Hebron (south).

The Palestinian Red Crescent Society said in a statement that its crews transported to the hospital a young man who was wounded by rubber bullets in the head during an Israeli force's raid on the village of Kharbatha Bani Harith, west of Ramallah.

In a subsequent statement, it added that its crews in the northern West Bank transported 3 injured people to the hospital as a result of an "assault by being run over by a military jeep in the town of Al-Yamun near (northwest of) Jenin."

Also in Jenin, the Voice of Palestine radio (government-run) said that an Israeli force raided the eastern area of the city, stormed a bakery, detained a number of citizens, and conducted field interrogations with them, while Palestine TV (government-run) said that the soldiers "abused a number of young men during the raid on the eastern neighborhood of the city of Jenin."

In the southern West Bank, human rights activist Osama Makhamreh said in a press briefing that the Israeli police arrested a foreign activist from Khirbet Aqawis in Masafer Yatta, south of Hebron, after raiding the village.

Makhamreh added that an Israeli force detained a number of Israeli activists for several hours while they were in Khirbet al-Halawa in Masafer Yatta.

He explained that there were five activists, and they were released after their vehicle was confiscated "on the grounds of entering Firing Zone 918."

On May 4, 2022, the Israeli Supreme Court ruled that "there are no legal obstacles to implementing plans to expel Palestinian residents from Masafer Yatta to make way for military training," which effectively exposes about 1,200 Palestinians to the risk of forced eviction and arbitrary displacement from the area known as "Firing Zone 918."

Since the start of the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip in October 2023, attacks by the Israeli army and settlers on Palestinians and their property in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem, have escalated.

In total, the escalation by the Israeli army and settlers from October 2023 until the end of last September resulted in the killing of more than 1,220 Palestinians, the injury of more than 13,350, and the arrest of about 24,600, according to official Palestinian data.
