Israeli Army Raids Palestinian Journalist's Home and Demands Family's Surrender

On Saturday, the Israeli army raided the home of Palestinian journalist Ali al-Sumadi (59 years old) in the city of Jenin in the northern occupied West Bank and demanded his family to surrender him.

Local sources reported that an Israeli army force raided al-Sumadi's home, assaulted his son, and demanded the family to surrender him within an hour.

The sources indicated that al-Sumadi was not present at the home at the time of the raid, and it is currently unknown whether he will surrender himself to the Israeli army or not.

It is noteworthy that the Israeli forces had previously arrested al-Sumadi for a full year under administrative detention and released him on April 30th last.

At that time, al-Sumadi emerged with a different appearance due to severe weight loss, attributing it to starvation policies within Israeli prisons, along with being subjected to torture, deprivation of basic rights, and frequent transfers between prisons accompanied by assaults.

On Thursday, Israel arrested Palestinian journalists Sabry Moussa Jibril and Mu'adh Ammarneh after raiding their homes in Bethlehem Governorate in southern West Bank.

Palestinian journalists are subjected to continuous attacks and violations by the Israeli authorities.

The Palestinian Journalists' Syndicate recorded 84 violations against journalists during August last, committed by Israeli forces and settlers, including the killing of a journalist in prison and the injury of another by gunfire.

This came in a statement by the Freedoms Committee of the Syndicate, on Tuesday, which said that journalists were subjected to a "wide range" of violations and attacks, including direct targeting of media crews, obstructing their work, detaining and arresting journalists, as well as targeting their equipment and journalistic materials.

The committee considered these attacks to be part of a "systematic policy aimed at restricting the freedom of journalistic work, preventing the transmission of the truth, and documenting crimes and violations committed against the Palestinian people".
