Irbid.. Partial collapse of a street and a broken sewage line due to an excavation

An unlicensed excavation for a building caused a partial collapse in the street located between the Culture intersection and the Jordan Street intersection (Al-Batin area) in the city of Irbid, in addition to infrastructure damage resulting from a broken sewage line passing through the area.

The media spokesperson for the Greater Irbid Municipality, Ghaith Al-Tal, confirmed that work at the site was halted immediately, and that the building owner was issued a violation and referred, along with the executing contractor, to legal and competent authorities to take the necessary measures against them.

Al-Tal added that the municipality had previously issued a warning to the project owner through municipal staff in the area, prohibiting them from starting excavation until obtaining the necessary official licenses, noting that municipal inspectors were monitoring the site in the field to examine the excavation and verify the extent of compliance with instructions.

Al-Tal explained that the person responsible for the excavation was obligated to bring in a specialized contractor to repair the broken sewage line, address the collapsed part of the street, and restore conditions to their previous state at their own expense, under the direct supervision of engineering and technical staff at the Greater Irbid Municipality.
