Iranian negotiators in Doha to continue talks to end the war

An informed official said that Iranian negotiators are in Doha on Sunday for the third consecutive day of talks with Qatari mediators, aiming to reach an agreement to end the American-Israeli war on Iran.

The talks are being held amid fears that the conflict could escalate again after the US midterm elections scheduled for November 3. US President Donald Trump said that the United States would not launch new attacks on Iran before the elections, and that talks with Tehran are productive, though he did not rule out launching further military operations afterward.

Iran has repeatedly vowed to respond to any new attacks at a time when the eight-month-old war continues to disrupt global oil supplies and is expanding across the Middle East.

Iranian Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei issued a statement on Saturday ordering the armed forces to be prepared to respond to any attacks. The Iranian army later announced that it was taking steps to enhance its readiness.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Saturday that Trump has not yet decided whether to launch new strikes against Iran, but that he prefers to resolve the conflict diplomatically.

Qatari mediators held talks in Tehran on Friday with Iranian officials before moving the talks to Doha on Saturday, according to an official.
