Increasing the number of admitted students in Medicine at public universities to 840 and Dentistry to 400

The Council for Education and Human Resources Development, chaired by Minister of Education Azmi Mahafzah, approved on Wednesday an increase in the number of students admitted to Medicine and Dentistry programs at Jordanian universities for the 2026-2027 academic year, as part of a periodic review of capacity and accreditation standards.

The Council increased the number of students admitted to Medicine under the regular program at public universities from 640 to 840, and in Dentistry from 320 to 400. It also approved an increase in the number of students admitted to the parallel program, in addition to increasing the number of students admitted to private universities by 20 students per specialty in each university.

According to the Council, the decision aims to reduce the number of Jordanian students studying Medicine and Dentistry abroad and to limit expenditure on studying abroad, while maintaining the quality of educational outcomes. The Council is also considering raising the minimum admission grade for Jordanian students wishing to study Medicine outside the Kingdom.
