Iman Al-Akour: Jordanian Narrative is a Story of the People and the Impact

Media personality Iman Al-Akour, during a seminar titled «Jordanian Narrative in the Journey of Media Personality Iman Al-Akour»recalled moments from her media and humanitarian experience spanning over three decades, affirming that the Jordanian narrative is not a term attached to achievements, but a story of the land, the people, and those who contributed to building the nation, in front of and behind the cameras.

The seminar, held at the Irbid Cultural Center as part of the events for selecting Bani Obaid District as the Jordanian Cultural District for the year 2026 under the patronage of Engineer Anmar Fouad Al-Khusauneh and organized by the Irbid Directorate of Culture, was moderated by Dr. Mona Al-Athamneh, and featured an interview with Dr. Thaer Ashour Al-Akour about her professional and humanitarian journey.

Al-Akour spoke about the beginnings of her relationship with words and media from her father's library in Irbid, moving on to television work and political and royal coverage in Arab and international capitals, pointing to significant milestones in her professional experience, including working as a news correspondent in English, training in international media institutions, and covering regional and international events, as well as accompanying His Majesty King Abdullah II on several official visits over the years.

She emphasized that the media experience is not only measured by the volume of events covered by the journalist but by the impact of human details on memory, pointing out that the humanitarian work she later engaged in reinforced her belief that «the big news is not always what headlines the news bulletins» it could be a child regaining his sight, a mother regaining hope in her eyes, or a family whose life changes because someone did not leave them alone.

She also addressed the presence of Jordanian women, stressing the importance of giving them a fair opportunity to make an impact and participate in decision-making, away from reducing their presence to empowerment slogans or putting them in a constant test to prove their ability.

The meeting was attended by a number of ladies from Bani Obaid District who were honored alongside cultural and social events, where the seminar took on a humanitarian and spontaneous character, during which the attendees recalled moments from Al-Akour's experience and journey.

At the end of the meeting, Al-Akour expressed her gratitude to the organizers and attendees, affirming that her return to Irbid was not just a participation in a cultural event, but a recovery of a part of the place and memory, considering that «some cities we return to not to visit them but to recover a part of ourselves».
