Guterres: No peace in the Middle East without achieving a two-state solution

The Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, confirmed today, Wednesday, that "there will be no peace in the Middle East without achieving a two-state solution".

Guterres emphasized, during a press conference at the headquarters of the international organization, the necessity of not forgetting "the horrific suffering endured by the Palestinian people – whether in the Gaza Strip or in the West Bank", calling for a halt to what he described as the "creeping annexation of the West Bank".

The United Nations will host world leaders participating in the 81st session of the General Assembly in the coming period, where Guterres, in this regard, called on world leaders to fulfill their promises, adhere to the United Nations Charter, defend international law, protect human rights, invest in sustainable and inclusive development, and push for peace.

The Secretary-General said that the world is entering a phase of "deep uncertainty", characterized by shifts in power balances, rapid changes, and increasing threats that require strengthening international cooperation.
