Greater Amman Municipality develops a traffic control unit and studies the introduction of toll roads

The City Manager at the Greater Amman Municipality, Nabil Al-Jariri, said that the Municipality is working on developing a traffic control unit and using modern technologies, including artificial intelligence, to help address congestion in the capital, in parallel with studying the possibility of introducing toll roads.

Al-Jariri explained on Tuesday that addressing congestion is not limited to building roads and developing infrastructure, but also includes monitoring, follow-up, and enhancing traffic compliance.

He indicated that the Municipality is working on collecting data through cameras that will be deployed in various locations across the capital, with the aim of monitoring vehicle numbers and analyzing traffic movement, which helps in preparing accurate studies to identify locations experiencing traffic pressure and selecting appropriate solutions.

Regarding the introduction of toll roads, Al-Jariri confirmed that the Municipality is studying this option, stipulating the provision of free alternative routes for citizens before proceeding with its implementation.

He pointed out that providing free alternatives represents a fundamental condition for introducing these roads, while studies related to this trend are still ongoing.
