Ghalibaf: Progress is not possible unless Iran's seven conditions are met

Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said on Thursday that Tehran has repeatedly and clearly communicated its conditions to mediators, and that no progress can be made unless its seven conditions are met.

He added, "The carrot and stick policy will not work with Iran."

Iranian media reported that Tehran received a message from US Vice President JD Vance but has not yet responded to it, amid efforts aimed at reviving peace negotiations between the United States and Iran.

The Tasnim News Agency stated that "Iran received the message but has not yet responded to it," while the Fars agency reported a similar report citing a "source familiar with the matter."

The Wall Street Journal reported on Wednesday that Vance sent a message to the Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, Mohsen Rezaee, under the direction of US President Donald Trump, in an effort to revive negotiations and avoid new US strikes.

The newspaper reported that the message and subsequent communication between US and Iranian officials focused on establishing a potential framework for negotiations, rather than delving into specific terms for a peace agreement.

Iran responded by launching attacks on Israel and US interests in the region, and also imposed restrictions on navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, a vital waterway through which about one-fifth of global oil consumption passes.

For its part, the United States imposed a blockade on Iranian ports.

The sending of the message comes at a time when diplomatic efforts aimed at ending the war have not yet resulted in any permanent agreement.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated on Wednesday that Tehran is discussing a plan with mediators, led by Qatar and Pakistan, to end the war and reopen the waterway.

Tehran insists that Washington meet 7 conditions it has set for reopening the strait, including a ceasefire across the Middle East, the release of frozen Iranian assets abroad, the lifting of sanctions imposed on the Iranian oil sector, and an end to the US naval blockade.

Tasnim agency said that "any position that undermines this established framework set by Iran is considered unacceptable."
