The Ministers of Interior Mazen Al-Furaih and Government Communication Mohammad Al-Momani, in the presence of the Director General of the Department of Statistics Dr. Haider Freihat, and the Governors via video and audio communication, held a meeting at the Ministry of Interior headquarters on Monday to follow up and discuss the preparations for implementing the 2026 General Population and Housing Census, and to review the roles required from the administrative governors and executive councils in the governorates to ensure the success of the census.
Al-Furaih emphasized the importance of the General Population and Housing Census, as its results provide data and information that contribute to supporting planning for the coming years in all sectors, noting that the direct census is not limited to knowing the number of inhabitants, but also provides detailed data that help in developing plans and public policies and directing services.
Al-Furaih directed the governors to the necessity of unifying the efforts of all administrative governors and executive councils in the administrative units, with the statistical teams, to ensure the success of the census, considering it a comprehensive national project.
For his part, the Minister of Government Communication said that the field phase of the census will begin on Thursday and will last for a month, pointing to the implementation of communication and media campaigns through comprehensive media products, broadcasted through various media and digital platforms, aiming to establish a broad societal awareness of the importance of the census and its implementation mechanism.
He emphasized the importance of the role of administrative governors in activating the role of community leaders and media professionals in supporting the general census process.
In turn, the Director General of the Department of Statistics provided a comprehensive briefing on the general population and housing census process, covering its various stages, and stressing the general objectives of the census, which includes the entire territory of the Kingdom, targeting Jordanians and non-Jordanians, and is implemented according to an internationally approved methodology with the participation of about 12,000 qualified and trained researchers.
He added that the census focuses on demographic and social data, and does not address the economic information of the population, providing reliable information that supports policy-making and improves the distribution of services in various sectors.
He also pointed out that the preparations for the census began about two years ago and included the preparation of statistical blocks and the enumeration of buildings.
He also explained that enhancing technological tools in census operations saves about 30% of the cost of the general census that was conducted in 2015.
For their part, the governors pointed to some active ideas that enhance communication and coordination between various concerned parties, in a way that ensures the success of the census process and its implementation in the required manner.
