The French public prosecutor's office has opened an investigation into a chat group on a social media platform that saw "calls to kill Muslims."
Local media reported on Tuesday that the Paris prosecutor's office took action following the emergence of "calls to kill Muslims" in a chat group on the American platform "X".
It added that the prosecutor's office opened an investigation into the conversation on suspicion of "incitement to hatred or violence" and "advocacy of committing a terrorist act."
The messages posted in the group included phrases such as: "This is not the country of the Arabs," "We should take advantage of their prayers in the streets, as they all gather," and "A large number of people must be killed."
Thomas Portes, a deputy for the La France Insoumise party, had posted a clip of the group's conversations on his account on the "X" platform on October 25.
Portes stated that the group witnessed calls for murder, incitement to hatred based on race, and the use of racist slurs, announcing his intention to file a complaint with the Paris Public Prosecutor's Office.
On October 23, an attack took place in the French department of Yvelines, resulting in the death of one person and the injury of 7 others.
French President Emmanuel Macron had announced that the attack was of a terrorist and racist nature.
