France opens 4 investigations into allegations of police violence during demonstrations

French authorities have opened 4 investigations into allegations of police use of violence during demonstrations held in the country over the weekend.

According to a report published by the French public broadcaster "Franceinfo", one of the investigations, handled by the General Inspectorate of the National Police, concerns a minor who lost his hand as a result of security forces firing munitions during a demonstration in the city of Saint-Étienne.

As for the second investigation, it was opened following a minor losing one of his eyes after being injured during a demonstration in the city of Mulhouse.

The third investigation was launched regarding an incident in which a protester was injured in the head, while details of the fourth investigation have not yet been announced.

Since Saturday, France has been witnessing "Yellow Vests" movement protests against the high cost of living in hundreds of locations, with the participation of various segments of society, most notably high school students, farmers, and climate activists.

The demonstrations, particularly in the capital, Paris, and a number of other cities, witnessed an escalation in tension between police and protesters and the occurrence of acts of violence.

Numerous shops were also looted, including branches of luxury brands, while the historic town hall building in the city of Limoges was set on fire.
