Formation of the Board of Trustees of the Kingdom University for Medical Sciences in Preparation for the Start of Studies in 2027

The Council for Education and Human Resources Development decided, during its recent session chaired by His Excellency Prof. Dr. Azmi Mahafzah, Minister of Education and Human Resources Development, to approve the formation of the Board of Trustees of the Kingdom University for Medical Sciences for a period of 4 years, effective from August 30, 2026.

The decision included the formation of the Board of Trustees headed by His Excellency Mr. Samir Zaid Al-Rifai, former Prime Minister, with the membership of: His Excellency Prof. Dr. Labib Mohammad Al-Khasawneh, former Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research; Prof. Dr. Islam Massad, former President of Yarmouk University and former Medical Director of Jordan University Hospital; Prof. Dr. Ismail Matalka, President of Ras Al Khaimah University of Medical and Health Sciences and former Director of King Abdullah University Hospital; His Excellency Eng. Bashar Arafeh, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Electronic Health Solutions (EHS); His Excellency Mr. Saad Al-Muasher, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Jordan Ahli Bank; His Excellency Mr. Fadi Al-Saeed, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Kingdom Healthcare and Medical Education; His Excellency Eng. Khalil Al-Saket, CEO of Depa Group and Board Member of Kingdom Healthcare and Medical Education; His Excellency Dr. Tariq Hammouri, former Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply; and Her Excellency Ms. Mona Sukhtian, Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Microfund for Women (Financing).

The appointment of the board members comes at a pivotal stage in the university's journey, as work progresses toward completing its academic system, preparing to launch the educational process, and welcoming its first batch of medical students in 2027. This appointment gains special importance from the board's composition, which reflects the university's orientation to establish a solid and well-governed institutional framework based on the diverse expertise the board encompasses, supporting the university's development during its foundation and launch phase.

The Board of Trustees will assume the responsibility of supervising the university's general orientations and supporting its institutional and academic path, in a way that enhances integration between medical education, clinical training, and scientific research, and aligns with the nature of the Kingdom Healthcare and Medical Education project, which brings these paths together within an integrated system.

The Kingdom University for Medical Sciences offers a Doctor of Medicine (MD) program, which was developed in academic partnership with the UCL Medical School, granting students two academic degrees over six years: a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree at the end of the sixth year, and a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Basic Medical Sciences at the end of the third year.

This partnership allows for benefiting from the expertise of the UCL Medical School—which is celebrating its 200th anniversary this year—particularly in the fields of medical education, research, curriculum development, and assessment, as it is ranked among the top ten universities in the world, occupying the 8th position globally according to the 2027 QS World University Rankings.

The university's program is based on combining scientific foundations, medical sciences, early clinical training, scientific research, and an innovative medical curriculum, while employing technology and artificial intelligence to support the educational process and prepare students to deal with rapid developments in medical practice and healthcare, alongside a focus on developing knowledge and skills designed to prepare the next generation of physicians.

The university features an integrated academic medical center, alongside the Kingdom University Hospital, allowing for a direct link between medical education, clinical practice, and scientific research, and providing students with an integrated environment for learning and practical training, which is reflected in the development of the competencies required to keep pace with developments in health sciences and practices.

The university is scheduled to welcome its first batch, comprising 150 male and female students, in September 2027, while preparations for the upcoming phase continue during the current period, including completing the academic program, attracting teaching competencies, meeting accreditation requirements, and preparing for the start of admissions and teaching.
