Professor Dr. Ma'moun Al-Omari, Professor of Interventional Radiology, confirmed that the use of this advanced system represents an important addition to the therapeutic options available for dealing with large and dangerous pulmonary clots, which may threaten the patient's life if they are not diagnosed and dealt with quickly and efficiently, pointing out that resorting to catheterization to remove clots provides an important therapeutic option in a number of critical cases.
The first case.. A large and life-threatening pulmonary clot
The hospital received a 35-year-old female patient who was suffering from severe shortness of breath and inability to walk.
CT imaging of the pulmonary arteries showed a large pulmonary clot of the Saddle Pulmonary Embolism type, extending to the main pulmonary arteries and their secondary and tertiary branches, accompanied by a decrease in oxygen levels and signs of strain on the right heart.
Following this, pulmonary clot removal was performed through catheterization using the computerized Penumabra Lightning 12 system, where the medical team succeeded in restoring blood flow in the pulmonary arteries, which reflected a clear improvement in the patient's clinical condition, who left the hospital in good health.
The second case.. Pulmonary clot with severe brain hemorrhage
In another more complex case, the hospital received a 53-year-old female patient who was suffering from multiple and serious pulmonary clots, in conjunction with severe brain hemorrhage Acute Intracranial Hemorrhage.
Due to the presence of brain hemorrhage, the use of blood thinners was impossible due to the risk of worsening the bleeding, which necessitated resorting to pulmonary clot removal by catheterization as a suitable treatment option for the case.
The medical team was able to remove the clots and restore blood flow in the pulmonary arteries successfully, in conjunction with the installation of an inferior vena cava filter IVC Filter to reduce the risk of new clots traveling from the lower limbs to the lungs, with continued clinical improvement of the patient.
A computerized smart technology to enhance the accuracy of clot removal
The system used is characterized by its reliance on advanced computerized technology that includes a special algorithm for clot detection Proprietary Clot Detection Algorithm, which works to recognize the presence of the clot and distinguish it from the open blood vessel, and then help regulate the suction pattern automatically during the procedure.
This technology contributes to supporting the clot removal process more accurately and efficiently, while helping to reduce blood loss during the suction process.
