The Director of Dibeen Nature Reserve, Bashir Al-Ayasrah, said on Saturday that about 10,000 bags of waste have been removed from inside the reserve since the beginning of the current year until the end of August, in addition to the implementation of more than 25 campaigns to reduce random littering within the reserve.
Al-Ayasrah added that the area of the Dibeen Nature Reserve is about 8,500 dunums and includes hundreds of thousands of forest trees, explaining that about 5,000 forest trees have dried up as a result of climate change.
Al-Ayasrah pointed out that some areas have been closed and a new fence has been placed around them in order to preserve the regeneration and natural germination of forest trees within the reserve.
Al-Ayasrah noted that the number of visitors to the Dibeen forests since the beginning of the current year has reached about 24,000 visitors, explaining that the reserve receives large numbers of visitors, especially from neighboring areas, sometimes exceeding its carrying capacity, with visitor numbers concentrated during the weekend.
Al-Ayasrah explained that the carrying capacity of the reserve ranges between 400 and 500 people per day, pointing out that the majority of visitors head to the reserve during the weekend, especially in the months of April and May.
Al-Ayasrah revealed that the reserve has raised the entry fee from 2 Jordanian Dinars to 5 Dinars, with the aim of reducing the number of visitors, preserving the reserve, and allowing room for the natural regeneration of forest trees in it.
