The Karak Governorate Environment Protection Directorate, in coordination with the Karak Youth Directorate, represented by the Mu'ab Youth and Girls Center, carried out an awareness campaign in the Mu'ab District markets, aiming to reduce random littering and promote awareness of the importance of maintaining public cleanliness and protecting the environment. This comes within the executive program of the cleanliness strategy and the reduction of random littering, and coincides with the events of the International Year of Volunteers for Sustainable Development for the year 2026.
The campaign was held under the patronage of the Assistant District Administrator of Mu'ab, with the participation of the District Administration, the Royal Department for Environment Protection, the Mazar Al-Janoubi Security Center, and the Mu'ab Civil Defense. It falls within the framework of strengthening cooperation and coordination between official institutions, relevant agencies, and youth work organizations, and intensifying efforts aimed at spreading environmental culture and motivating citizens to adopt positive practices that contribute to maintaining the cleanliness of public places and commercial facilities.
The Director of the Mu'ab Youth and Girls Center, Ahmed Al-Tarawneh, emphasized that the campaign comes in the context of the role played by youth centers in spreading environmental awareness and fostering social responsibility among citizens, especially the youth, through the implementation of initiatives and field activities that address the needs of the local community and contribute to addressing negative behaviors that affect the environment.
Al-Tarawneh said that maintaining public cleanliness is a shared responsibility that requires the concerted efforts of official institutions and the local community, pointing to the importance of educating citizens, vehicle drivers, and shop owners on the necessity of proper waste disposal and not throwing it in the streets or on the sides of roads, due to its negative effects on the civilized appearance, public health, and the environment.
He added that the Mu'ab Youth and Girls Center is keen to enhance youth participation in voluntary and environmental initiatives, provide them with the opportunity to contribute effectively to serving their regions, and consolidate the values of belonging, responsibility, and teamwork, stressing that positive change begins with individual behavior and reflects on the entire society.
The campaign included the implementation of direct awareness activities in the commercial market in the Al-Husayniyah area, targeting citizens, vehicle drivers, shop owners, and shoppers. It focused on the importance of adhering to sound environmental practices, maintaining the cleanliness of streets, sidewalks, and public facilities, and reducing the accumulation of waste that affects the environment and the civilized landscape of the region.
It also included the distribution of eco-friendly and reusable bags to vehicle drivers, as part of the "Keep your bag in your car" initiative, which aims to encourage drivers to keep a designated bag for collecting waste inside their vehicles and use it to dispose of it in designated places, instead of throwing it on the roads or out of car windows.
The campaign also included educating shop owners and shoppers on the importance of maintaining the cleanliness of the market and its surroundings, and being keen to collect waste and place it in designated containers, which contributes to reducing random practices and promoting civilized behaviors that reflect the community's awareness of the importance of protecting the environment.
