Attiyah Participates in Coordination Meeting of the Arab Parliamentary Group at the Inter-Parliamentary Union

The First Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dr. Khamis Hussein Attiyah, participated today, Sunday, in the coordination meeting of the Arab Parliamentary Group on the sidelines of the 153rd General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, which is holding its meetings in United Tanzania, to discuss and consult on the items on the agenda of the General Assembly, and the 218th session of the Governing Council.

During the meeting, attended by MPs Noor Abu Ghosh and Huda Nafa, the agenda items of the coordination meeting of the Arab Parliamentary Group were discussed and approved, in which opinions were exchanged regarding requests to include emergency items on the agenda of the General Assembly and the Governing Council.

Attiyah emphasized the importance of reaching a consensus of the Arab Parliamentary Group, explaining that the position of the presidency of the Inter-Parliamentary Union is of great importance due to the nature of the tasks assigned to it, which will enhance international parliamentary work towards many issues and topics of common interest.

The Arab Parliamentary Group listened to the candidates for the position of President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, who are the Speakers of the Azerbaijani, Chilean, and Australian Parliaments, as well as the presentation given by the Deputy Speaker of the Qatari Shura Council, Dr. Hamda Al-Sulaiti, representing the Arab Group in the Executive Committee of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, on the work of the Committee since the 152nd General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union.

Opinions were exchanged regarding requests to include emergency items on the agenda of the General Assembly, or additional items on the agenda of the Governing Council, through the Arab Parliamentary Group members expressing a unified Arab position regarding the nominations for the position of President of the Union. It should be noted that Attiyah's participation in the coordination meeting of the Arab Parliamentary Group comes within the framework of coordination, consultation, and exchange of views for the Group prior to the start of the 153rd General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union.

Attiyah also met with the Speaker of the Australian House of Representatives, "Milton Dick", one of the candidates for the presidency of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, in the presence of the delegation member, MP Huda Nafa, and during the meeting, the importance of strengthening parliamentary relations between the two friendly councils was emphasized.

"Dick" appreciated the role played by the Jordanian House of Representatives in favor of joint parliamentary work, pointing to the commonalities between the Australian House of Representatives and the Arab parliamentary councils, which will enhance its work if it is possible for him to chair the Inter-Parliamentary Union.

Attiyah stated that the House of Representatives believes in collective Arab parliamentary work, affirming the commitment of the Jordanian House of Representatives to the consensus of the Arab Parliamentary Group in this regard.
