The Eastern Military Zone thwarted, at dawn on Wednesday, four attempts to smuggle large quantities of narcotic substances using guided balloons along one of its border fronts.
These attempts come in light of the repeated use of guided balloons in drug smuggling operations, in an attempt to exploit unconventional methods and means to smuggle narcotics across the border.
Border Guard units carried out a qualitative operation, during which they monitored the guided balloons at various locations, engaged with them, and downed them inside Jordanian territory, in coordination with military security agencies and the Anti-Narcotics Department.
The operation resulted in the seizure of the balloons' cargo, amounting to about half a million narcotic pills, and the seized items were transferred to the competent authorities to take the necessary legal measures.
The Jordanian Armed Forces – the Arab Army confirms that the recurrence of smuggling attempts and the change in their methods will not deter the Border Guard forces from performing their duties, and that they continue to monitor and follow up on various forms of illegal activities on the border fronts, dealing with them with all firmness and capability.
The Border Guard forces deployed along the various border fronts continue to perform their duties around the clock, with high vigilance and readiness, to preserve the security and stability of the nation, and to confront drug smuggling attempts in all their forms and means.
