"Aqaba Special" raises readiness to face weather conditions

Director of the Works Directorate at the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA), Engineer Shadi Al-Suheimat, confirmed the readiness of the Authority's cadres to deal with the unstable weather conditions the city has been experiencing since Friday evening, noting that roads are passable and rainwater drainage networks are operating without any recorded incidents or notable damage.

Al-Suheimat told (Petra) today, Saturday, that the city witnessed varying rainfall, with the highest amounts recorded in the north of the city, reaching about 10.4 mm in the Customs and Al-Masfar areas, while it reached 6.2 mm in the city center, according to the development station, and 6.4 mm in the south, according to the ports station.

He added that the Authority's cadres have raised their readiness and distributed machinery and equipment in locations that usually experience water accumulation, ensuring a rapid response to any emergency. He confirmed that traffic, tourism, port operations, and container terminals are proceeding normally, and emergency teams are monitoring weather developments on the ground in coordination with the relevant authorities.

Al-Suheimat explained that the emergency plan is based on proactive maintenance and cleaning work carried out throughout the year, which includes rainwater drainage channels, culverts, and drainage manholes, which are maintained and cleaned four times a year before, during, and after weather events.

He pointed to continuous coordination between the Authority, Aqaba Governorate, the Governorate's Works Directorate, the Civil Defense Directorate, and all other relevant parties to ensure integrated efforts, rapid response to any developments, and the preservation of public safety.

According to approved weather forecasts, the intensity of the weather conditions is expected to begin to gradually subside over the coming hours, with continued monitoring of developments and the taking of necessary measures according to updates.
