Aqaba Ports Management: 40 ships between berths, waiting, and en route

- Study to hire more than 50 employees at Aqaba port

Director General of the Aqaba Company for Ports Operation and Management, Mahmoud Khleifat, said that ship traffic at the port of Aqaba is witnessing increasing pressure, with 8 ships at the berths, 16 ships waiting to enter the port, and 16 others on their way, noting that the company is studying the hiring of more than 50 employees to strengthen handling operations staff.

Khleifat added on Sunday that Prime Minister Jafar Hassan's visit to Aqaba confirmed government support for plans to modernize operations, develop them, and increase their efficiency, enabling the ports to deal with the increase in the quantities of goods arriving from Arab countries and to turn current challenges into opportunities to enhance Aqaba's regional role.

He explained that the company has developed a development plan to accommodate the increasing pressure on the ports, which includes restarting the Mu'tah port, known as the joint port, after completing maintenance work, and dedicating it to handling oils for the Iraqi market, in addition to establishing a floating port for Iraqi oil exports and expanding the construction of logistics centers and cargo storage yards.

He pointed out that these projects aim to increase handling capacities and accommodate larger quantities of goods, in light of the pressure on the main port and the oil port, especially with the expansion of oil import and export operations related to Iraq.
