Aqaba Journalists: King's Speech at the UN Puts the International Community Before Its Responsibilities

The Aqaba branch of the Jordanian Journalists Syndicate Committee confirmed that His Majesty King Abdullah II's speech before the United Nations General Assembly, this evening, carried clear and direct messages regarding the challenges facing the region, and placed the international community before its responsibilities towards protecting international law, preserving security and stability, and achieving just peace.

The Committee said in a statement that His Majesty's speech clearly reflected the constants of the Jordanian position towards regional issues, foremost of which is the Palestinian issue, and rejected the double standards in the application of international law, warning that the continuation of this duplicity undermines confidence in international institutions and weakens the global security and stability system.

It pointed out that His Majesty emphasized the need to achieve a permanent and just peace, and to stop the violations and excesses witnessed in the Palestinian territories and the region, rejecting attempts to portray the conflict as a religious war, or to question the credibility of the voices that criticize the documented violations.

The Committee valued His Majesty's affirmation of the Jordanian role in confronting terrorism and extremism, drug smuggling, and protecting the security of the Kingdom and its borders, and rejecting any attempts to use Jordan as a arena for regional conflicts or to impose fait accompli.

The Committee emphasized that the royal message regarding the northern borders and water security carries special importance for Jordan, in light of the rapid developments in the region, stressing that the Kingdom will not compromise in protecting its borders, national interests, and water rights.

In this context, the Committee considered that water security is not just a service file, but a national and strategic issue directly linked to Jordan's security, stability, and the future of its generations, affirming the importance of protecting the Kingdom's water rights and interests in accordance with international law.

The Committee also praised what the royal speech included of affirming the protection of Christians, their heritage, and their communities in the region, and defending the true image of Islam, reflecting the Jordanian role in consolidating the values of coexistence, moderation, and respect for religious and cultural diversity.

It confirmed that the Hashemite custodianship of Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem represents a constant historical position for Jordan, alongside the Kingdom's continued adoption of dialogue and diplomacy, and adherence to humanitarian values as a means to achieve peace.

The Aqaba branch of the Jordanian Journalists Syndicate Committee stressed that Jordanian media will remain present in reporting national and regional issues professionally and responsibly, and highlighting Jordanian positions on various files that affect the security, stability, and national interests of the Kingdom.
