Qudratov: We are studying the signing of a preferential trade agreement with Jordan that includes 300 commodities
The Chairman of the Jordan and Amman Chambers of Industry, Engineer Fathi Al-Jaghbir, said that economic relations between Jordan and Uzbekistan are witnessing remarkable development, in light of the growing mutual visits and continued discussions regarding a preferential trade agreement, which opens broader horizons for enhancing trade exchange and establishing investment and industrial partnerships between the two countries.
During a meeting with the Uzbek Minister of Investment, Industry and Trade, Laziz Kudratov, and the accompanying delegation at the Amman Chamber of Industry on Monday, he added that trade exchange between the two countries increased by 79 percent during 2025, while 18 companies with Jordanian capital are operating in Uzbekistan, indicators that reflect a positive start for economic cooperation and confirm the existence of great opportunities to increase the volume of trade and joint investments.
He stressed that the Jordanian and Uzbek economies possess broad opportunities for integration, as the most prominent Jordanian exports to Uzbekistan include medicines, chemical products, machinery, and equipment, while the Kingdom imports textile products, dried fruits, and nuts from Uzbekistan, which provides a base that can be built upon to expand the list of exchanged products and increase the volume of trade.
He explained that Jordanian industry possesses competitive advantages in the pharmaceutical, chemical, fertilizer, engineering, and electrical industries sectors, pointing to the ability of Jordanian products to meet the standards of European and American markets, in addition to benefiting from the network of free trade agreements that link the Kingdom with the United States, the European Union, Arab countries, and Canada.
He pointed out that Jordanian investments in Uzbekistan could form a gateway to access Central Asian markets, while Uzbek investments in Jordan provide an opportunity to benefit from the Kingdom's location, markets, and trade agreements to access Arab markets.
Al-Jaghbir stressed the importance of addressing the logistical challenges that hinder trade movement, accelerating the completion of the necessary procedures for the preferential trade agreement to enter into force, in addition to facilitating transfers and banking and financial transactions between the two countries, contributing to providing a more attractive and efficient business environment for investors.
For his part, Minister Kudratov said that his country looks forward to strengthening its economic and investment partnership with Jordan, and building on the political commitment of the leaderships of both countries to develop solid and sustainable bilateral relations, in a way that achieves common interests and opens broader horizons for cooperation between the business communities.
He added that the two countries intend to take practical steps to enhance cooperation between the private sector, by organizing bilateral meetings between Jordanian and Uzbek companies, holding a business forum, and establishing a joint exhibition to showcase the economic and investment opportunities and potential available in both countries.
He revealed that Uzbekistan intends to bring more than 100 representatives of Uzbek companies to Jordan next month, with the aim of discussing direct cooperation opportunities with their Jordanian counterparts, identifying the priorities and needs of Jordanian companies, and determining promising sectors for trade and investment partnerships.
He pointed out that Uzbekistan is one of the most prominent producers of cotton and textile products, which provides opportunities for integration with Jordanian expertise and capabilities in this field, in addition to interest in cooperation in the pharmaceutical industry, in which Jordan enjoys advanced capabilities, as well as the automotive, machinery, equipment, and building materials sectors.
He indicated that Uzbekistan possesses an industrial base in the automotive sector, producing about half a million cars annually in cooperation with international companies, including General Motors, BYD, Volkswagen, and Kia, which allows for opportunities to develop partnerships with Jordanian companies in industries related to cars and machinery.
He pointed out that the construction and building materials sector is witnessing remarkable growth in Uzbekistan, coinciding with the expansion of economic activity and the rise in local demand, which provides additional opportunities for Jordanian companies to enter the Uzbek market or establish joint projects.
The Uzbek Minister added that Jordan and Uzbekistan intend to sign a preferential trade agreement, which constitutes a practical step to enhance trade exchange and joint investments between the two countries.
He pointed out that the agreement comes within the framework of the political commitment of the leaderships of both countries to develop sustainable economic and trade relations, noting that the two governments are working to create the appropriate environment for developing trade and investment, and enhancing communication between business communities, which contributes to transforming available opportunities into joint projects and production partnerships.
He explained that the coming period will witness bilateral meetings, a business forum, and a joint exhibition, with the participation of more than 100 representatives of Uzbek companies, with the aim of discussing cooperation opportunities and identifying priority sectors for both sides.
He stressed that the anticipated agreement represents an opportunity to enhance the presence of Jordanian products in the Uzbek market, and open the way for Uzbek products to benefit from the Jordanian market, which supports the growth of trade exchanges and expands the areas of economic cooperation between the two countries.
