Public Security Director: Karak crime was not pre-planned

Public Security Director Major General Obeidallah Al-Maaytah said that the Karak crime had no prior planning, explaining that the three individuals were behind the funeral procession and made the decision to commit the crime.

Al-Maaytah added during a joint press conference that this was the result of a convergence of ideas among them due to their intellectual makeup, their deviation from the right path, and their adoption of extremist ideology and terrorism.

He explained that the three individuals left the site in a single vehicle, which was seized, and the link between the individuals and the vehicle was also established.

Al-Maaytah said that a number of weapons and a large quantity of ammunition were seized from the three terrorists after the engagement with them.

Al-Maaytah explained that raid teams continued to comb the designated areas continuously over the past three days, until after midnight on Sunday, when one of the villages was divided into sectors and a number of abandoned houses were identified in preparation for them to be searched and combed by specialized teams.

He added that a wide geographical area was identified, including a number of villages, as well as rugged mountainous areas and valleys, and the necessary measures were taken to isolate the area and secure its perimeter by establishing roadblocks, conducting patrols, and using drones to ensure the terrorists were surrounded.

He continued that the operation resulted in gaining control of the building and arresting the three terrorists, all of whom were injured; they were transported to the hospital and remain under treatment, pending the commencement of their interrogation.

He confirmed that investigation procedures began immediately after the crime occurred along two tracks: the first involved criminal and proactive investigation and the collection of information and evidence from the crime scene, while the second track focused on enhancing the efficiency of emergency response, control, and systems, and executing search and intervention operations to determine the movements of the terrorists and the paths they took.

He pointed out that reliance is placed on a great deal of available information, sourced from many people who believe that this homeland must remain an oasis of security and stability, and we affirm that this Jordan will remain resilient against anyone who dares to challenge it.

For his part, Minister of Interior Mazen Al-Faraya said on Monday that the security services arrested the three terrorists who carried out the terrorist operation in Karak Governorate, without any injuries among the security forces, noting that the operation to arrest the terrorists was high-quality and took place under difficult circumstances.

Al-Faraya added during a press conference that the arrest of the perpetrators does not mean the work is finished, confirming that the state is proceeding with completing investigations, uncovering all the circumstances of the crime, and holding accountable everyone proven to be involved in planning, inciting, assisting, or facilitating it, in accordance with the provisions of the law.

He said that the state will not allow any person involved to escape legal accountability.

Al-Faraya mourned the martyrs of the attack, offering his condolences to their families and relatives, His Majesty King Abdullah II, and the Jordanian people, saying: "We stand more reassured that the hand of justice has reached the perpetrators of this heinous terrorist crime, and that the blood of our martyrs will not go in vain."

He pointed out that His Majesty the King pledged, during his visit to the injured in the hospital, to deal firmly with the perpetrators of this act and to hold all those involved in it accountable, adding that the success of the security operation confirms that His Majesty's directives are being translated into actions on the ground, and that the Jordanian state does not tolerate the protection of its citizens' lives.

Al-Faraya expressed his thanks and appreciation to the security services, institutions, and personnel who contributed to the success of the operation, praising their efforts that continued from the first moment the crime occurred, and the professionalism, efficiency, and high level of coordination they demonstrated.

Al-Momani: What happened is a pivotal historical milestone in the path of efforts to end extremism

Minister of Government Communications and official government spokesperson, Mohammad Al-Momani, said on Monday that what happened is a pivotal historical milestone in the path of efforts to end extremism and takfiri ideology in Jordan, and the campaign is ongoing to eradicate takfiri ideology and extremism in all sectors.

Al-Momani added in a press conference that the directives of His Majesty King Abdullah II during the National Security Council meeting to review policies for combating extremist ideology and drying up its sources within a systematic plan confirm that confronting extremism is a comprehensive and continuous national responsibility, noting that it is a responsibility shared by government, religious, educational, media, and societal institutions.

He explained that protecting society is not limited to confronting violence, but begins with confronting the ideas that justify it and the rhetoric that grants it acceptance or cover.

He emphasized that confronting misinformation and rumors is an essential part of protecting society during crises; misleading information can sow fear, weaken trust, and open the door to incitement. We affirm the government's commitment to providing accurate and reliable information.

He warned against slipping into discussions that fuel hate speech or call for division and discord among Jordanians, adding that a crime committed by those with a takfiri extremist ideology must not be turned into an occasion for exchanging accusations or generalizing against any component of society.

He stressed, "We must not allow terrorism to achieve with words what it failed to achieve through crime."

He pointed out that citizenship is not measured by religious or social affiliation, and no Jordanian needs to prove the authenticity of their belonging to their homeland, adding that the government will not "allow a takfiri extremist ideology to redefine our relationship with each other, or to touch the national commonality that brings us together under the umbrella of the state and the rule of law."

He affirmed that Jordanians, in their cohesion, unity, and standing by the bereaved families of the martyrs, have drawn a scene that expresses the essence and authenticity of this people, and their rejection of hatred and division.

He said, "This solidarity embodies our belief that the affliction of any Jordanian is the affliction of us all, and that our national unity is firm and cannot be undermined by terrorism."
