Minister of Transport and Minister of Labor Nidal Al-Qatamin discussed with representatives of several shipping companies, and during a virtual meeting with the Aqaba Container Terminal company, ways to enhance the port's efficiency and increase its capacity to keep pace with the growth in trade, especially transit trade destined for countries in the region, primarily Iraq.
During the meeting, which was attended by the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Transport, Fares Abu Dieh, Al-Qatamin emphasized the importance of developing the port's work system, expanding the capacity of the yards, and accelerating handling operations to enhance the flow of goods and reduce waiting times.
He stated that raising the efficiency of the Aqaba port and facilitating the movement of goods through it enhances Jordan's competitiveness as a regional hub for transport and logistics services, and contributes to supporting the national economy and serving the markets of neighboring countries.
He stressed the importance of continued coordination between the concerned authorities to address operational and logistical challenges and accelerate procedures.
The attendees emphasized the importance of finding rapid operational solutions to deal with empty containers and transit goods, and studying the provision of additional yards and spaces to serve this movement, which would relieve pressure on the port's yards and increase its ability to accommodate more containers.
