Al-Azza: The Importance of Transforming Women's Participation in Municipal Work into Decision-Makers

The Chairman of the Irbid Greater Municipality Committee, Imad Al-Azza, and participants in the project «Do They Lead the Way?» implemented by the Life Center – Rasid in partnership with the Heinrich-Böll-Stiftung, discussed the main recommendations in the project's policy paper, titled «Before the Ballot Box: Building a Sustainable Path for Women's Access to Local Decision-Making in Irbid Governorate».

Al-Azza and the participants discussed the mechanisms for implementing the recommendations, which included measuring women's political participation based on impact rather than numbers, supporting those wishing to run for office, developing party programs to empower women, establishing women's and youth pressure networks, involving families and men in empowerment sessions, expanding the scope of programs to areas with less access to opportunities, and developing transparency and accountability mechanisms and institutionalizing women's roles in planning and budgets.

Al-Azza emphasized the importance of transforming women's participation in municipal work into real participation that makes them decision-makers, pointing to the experience of the Irbid Greater Municipality, where women hold leadership and field positions and have proven high efficiency.

The program participants praised the efforts of the Irbid Greater Municipality and its committee chairman, appreciating the opportunity for women to hold prominent leadership and field positions, where they have demonstrated their ability to lead and manage municipal work in various locations.
