A state of atmospheric instability.. expands on Sunday and extends until Tuesday

The Director of the Meteorological Department, Raed Al-Khatib, said that the Kingdom is witnessing transitional autumn weather during this period, and cases of atmospheric instability may form, especially with the activity of the extension of the Red Sea low and the availability of suitable weather conditions, noting that these cases vary in their strength and impact from one case to another; they may sometimes be weak and limited, and may be more active at other times.

According to a statement by the Meteorological Department today, Wednesday, Al-Khatib explained that one of the characteristics of cases of atmospheric instability is the spatial and temporal variation in precipitation, as rain often falls in the form of intermittent showers and varying intensity, and may sometimes be heavy and for short periods in limited areas, which may lead to the accumulation of water and the flow of floods in valleys and low-lying areas.

According to the latest analyses and weather maps at the Meteorological Department, the situation begins weakly and limitedly on Thursday, where it is expected that the southeastern regions and the northeastern desert will be affected, starting from noon until the early evening hours, with the appearance of cumulonimbus clouds and the possibility of light to moderate rain showers in limited areas, which may sometimes be accompanied by thunder, while the opportunity for precipitation decreases and ends during the night hours.

On Friday, cumulonimbus clouds will reappear in the southeast of the Kingdom in the afternoon, with the expectation of rain showers that may be accompanied by thunder for limited periods, and there is a chance during the early evening hours for scattered showers for a short period in parts of the far northeastern desert.

On Saturday, the impact of the atmospheric instability case is renewed starting from noon, where it is expected, God willing, that showers of rain will fall in the south of the Kingdom, gradually extending to the eastern regions, and may sometimes be accompanied by thunder.

On Sunday, the scope of the impact of the atmospheric instability case is expected to widen, with showers of rain expected to start in the southern regions and gradually extend in the afternoon to several areas of the Kingdom, accompanied by lightning and thunder, and the precipitation may be heavy for periods in some areas, especially the southern and eastern ones, which increases the likelihood of floods in valleys and low-lying areas, while the impact of the case is expected to weaken gradually during the night hours.

Al-Khatib added that the initial indicators suggest that the unstable weather will remain intermittent during Monday and Tuesday, but determining the areas of precipitation, its intensity, and timing during this period requires following the upcoming updates, due to the possibility of details of the instability cases changing as the time period approaches.

He confirmed that the Meteorological Department is continuously monitoring the development of the situation, and that the analyses and forecasts will be updated successively according to the latest data, observations, and weather maps, and citizens will be informed of any updates as soon as possible.

With the gradual approach to winter and the increasing chances of rainfall, the Meteorological Department called on citizens to stay away from wadis, valleys, and low-lying areas during weather conditions, and not to risk crossing areas that witness water flow.

It also called on drivers to exercise caution, especially at the beginning of rain after periods of drought, due to the high likelihood of slipping on roads, in addition to paying attention during periods of heavy precipitation or reduced visibility.

It emphasized the necessity of following the weather bulletins, updates, and warnings issued by it as soon as possible, and not to rely on outdated information, and to obtain weather information from its official source, especially since the nature of atmospheric instability cases requires continuous monitoring of any change that may occur in the places of precipitation or its intensity and timing.
