56 Domestic Workers Arrested in Buses on Airport Road with Active Absconding Reports

The Ministry of Labor seized four buses on Airport Road on Friday carrying 200 domestic workers, 56 of whom were found to have active absconding reports and other cases registered against them.

The arrest operation came within the framework of the ministry's plan and directives to organize the labor market, rectify the status of violating non-Jordanian workers, and curb the phenomenon of domestic workers absconding. It was carried out under the follow-up of Secretary-General Abdul Halim Doujan, and through cooperation between the specialized inspection team, the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit at the Public Security Directorate, and specialized directorates within the Public Security.

The Ministry's Official Spokesperson, Mohammad Al-Zyoud, explained that the arrest operation was based on information received by the specialized inspection team—formed by the Minister to follow up on this file in cooperation with the Public Security Directorate—indicating the gathering of 200 domestic workers in four buses planning to go on a recreational trip outside the capital. They were monitored and intercepted on Airport Road in cooperation with the specialized inspection team and the Public Security Directorate, and the runaways were referred to security centers.

Al-Zyoud emphasized that the ministry has drawn up an integrated plan to follow up on the file of absconded workers, which includes inspecting their places of residence, prosecuting anyone who helps them escape or employs them in violation of labor and residency laws, in addition to monitoring social media platforms promoting these violations.

Al-Zyoud urged citizens not to deal with or employ any absconded worker, and called for immediately reporting to the Ministry of Labor or security centers any person employing foreign domestic workers on a daily-wage basis, considering this a blatant violation of the provisions of the labor, residency, and foreign affairs laws.
