3592 charitable societies under the supervision of Social Development in Jordan

The Ministry of Social Development said on Wednesday that the number of charitable societies under its supervision has reached 3592, while the ministry has registered 77 new societies during the current year, compared to 47 societies that have submitted requests for voluntary dissolution.

The ministry added to "Al-Mamlaka" that the funding sources for charitable societies vary between donations, membership fees, annual subscriptions, donations from society members, grants, and endowments, in addition to the proceeds from activities carried out by the societies.

It explained that the ministry provides support to societies through a set of programs, including the programs of the Directorate of Productivity Enhancement and Community Development, the Societies Support Fund, and cash support through the societies' subsidy program.

The ministry indicated that the value of cash support provided to societies, according to the 2026 budget, amounted to 296 thousand dinars, in addition to project support through the Directorate of Productivity Enhancement and Community Development and the Societies Support Fund.

It pointed out that the services provided to the voluntary sector aim to empower, institutionalize, and govern it, which reflects positively on the implementation of its activities and programs for the targeted groups, achieves the goals for which they were established, and contributes to serving local communities.

Regarding the oversight role, the ministry confirmed that it monitors the performance of societies and their workflow, based on the provisions of the Law on Societies and the applicable regulations and instructions, noting that dealing with violating societies is carried out through follow-up committees in the Societies Directorate, field directorates, and the oversight unit, where legal action is taken in the event of violations or transgressions.

The ministry confirmed that fundraising operations in charitable societies are subject to oversight through the fundraising licensing system and a committee specialized in reviewing fundraising applications.
