2000 Years Since the Baptism of Jesus Christ.. Jordan is the World's Destination in 2030

The session "2000 Years Since the Baptism of Jesus Christ.. Jordan is the World's Destination in 2030," held as part of the Future of Media Conference at the Landmark Hotel in Amman, discussed the importance of preparing for the upcoming occasion and the opportunities available to enhance Jordan's position as a global destination for pilgrimage and religious and archaeological tourism.

The session featured the Director of the Jordan Tourism Board, Ramzi Al-Maaitah, and the Director of the Catholic Center for Studies and Media, Father Rifat Bader. Its themes addressed the religious and historical significance of the Baptism Site (Al-Maghtas) and the importance of promoting Jordan's holy and archaeological sites to attract visitors from around the world.

Al-Maaitah discussed Jordan's historical and religious standing and the importance of holy and archaeological sites in strengthening the Kingdom's presence on the global tourism map, alongside the importance of efforts aimed at highlighting Jordan's cultural heritage and promoting it internationally in preparation for the upcoming 2030 occasion.

The session's themes emphasized the importance of investing in the Kingdom's tourism assets and developing methods for promoting religious and historical sites, contributing to attracting more pilgrims and tourists and enhancing the tourism sector's contribution to the national economy.

For his part, Father Rifat Bader stressed the importance of developing pilgrimage tourism and working to attract millions of pilgrims to the Baptism Site, in conjunction with preparations to commemorate the 2000th anniversary of the baptism of Jesus Christ in 2030.

Bader pointed to the importance of attracting religious and archaeological tourism and raising awareness of Christian sites in the Kingdom, noting the existence of 34 Christian archaeological sites, including the Baptism Site, which reflects the diversity of the religious and historical heritage the Kingdom enjoys and provides opportunities to enhance tourism programs and attract visitors.

He emphasized the importance of translating the Jordanian narrative regarding holy sites and historical heritage into clear media and tourism content that reaches an international audience, contributing to highlighting Jordan's status, promoting its religious and archaeological sites, and enhancing its global presence.

The Baptism Site, located on the eastern bank of the Jordan River, is considered one of the most prominent Christian pilgrimage sites due to the religious tradition associated with the baptism of Jesus Christ, while the 2030 occasion represents an opportunity to intensify tourism and media efforts to promote the site and the Kingdom's religious and historical heritage.
