10,000 Free Books at the National Reading Day Celebration at the National Library

The National Library Department will celebrate the National Reading Day 2026 next Tuesday, in a cultural and intellectual event held under the patronage of the Minister of Culture, Professor Mustafa Al-Rawashdeh, and in cooperation with the Jordanian Libraries and Information Association and the Knowledge Production and Cultural Publishing Association, and it includes distributing more than 10,000 free books to visitors.

The day's events will be held at the National Library Department headquarters, from ten in the morning until eight in the evening, with the participation of a number of cultural and intellectual institutions and bodies, in a program that includes story readings for children, intellectual and dialogue seminars, in addition to the 'Author's Corner' which allows authors to introduce their publications and meet readers and sign and dedicate their books.

The celebration comes as an affirmation of the importance of reading in building a knowledge society, enhancing the presence of books and libraries in cultural and daily life, in addition to opening a discussion on the transformations witnessed by the world of knowledge production and access to it, in light of the rapid development in artificial intelligence technologies and digital platforms.

The dialogue seminar, which starts at half past four in the afternoon, discusses the topic 'Books and Libraries in the Age of Artificial Intelligence: The End of the Role or the Beginning of Transformation?', and is moderated by the President of the Jordanian Libraries and Information Association, Dr. Imad Abu Eid, with the participation of the Director General of the National Library Department, Mr. Firas Al-Dara'beh, Professor of Library and Information Science, Dr. Rubhi Alyan, and the Director of the University of Jordan Library, Dr. Majed Dhenibat.

The seminar discusses the impact of artificial intelligence on knowledge production and access to it, the future of traditional books, the transformations witnessed by the roles of libraries, in addition to the opportunities and challenges posed by artificial intelligence technologies in scientific research, and the new skills needed by library and information specialists.

It also addresses the possibility of libraries transitioning from their traditional service roles to more prominent roles in knowledge production and innovation, in line with the rapid digital transformations.

The program will witness, at six in the evening, an intellectual seminar entitled 'Who Creates Awareness Today: The Writer or the Digital Platform?', moderated by Professor Dr. Rubhi Alyan, and featuring the main producer at the Kingdom Channel, Heba Jawhar, the writer and journalist Majdi Al-Tal, and the educational supervisor at the Ministry of Education, Dr. Faisal Al-Ghowayin.

The seminar sheds light on the transformations that have occurred in the cultural and media landscape, the role of digital platforms in shaping public awareness and knowledge production, in addition to examining the writer's position in the new digital environment, and the challenges and opportunities facing cultural, educational, and media institutions in light of these transformations.

The 'Author's Corner' occupies a prominent space within the National Reading Day events, with the aim of introducing Jordanian publications and highlighting the intellectual and cultural production of authors, and providing an opportunity for readers to meet authors and learn about their experiences and publications, in addition to signing and dedicating books to visitors.

The event emphasized in its program the importance of strengthening the direct link between the writer and the reader, supporting the presence of Jordanian books in the cultural scene, and providing an opportunity for different segments of society to access books and benefit from them.

The events are held in cooperation with the Greater Amman Municipality, the Culture Wharf, and the Al-Yazuri Scientific House, and with the participation of a number of institutions and bodies working in the cultural and intellectual fields.

The National Reading Day aims to entrench reading as a daily and cultural practice, enhance the status of books in society, provide free books to visitors, and provide a space for dialogue about the future of books, libraries, and reading in the era of digital transformation and artificial intelligence.

The National Library Department opens its doors to visitors, families, school students, readers, and those interested in cultural and intellectual affairs, to participate in the day's events that extend from ten in the morning until eight in the evening, in a celebration that seeks to make books and reading the center of cultural and intellectual interaction.
