Yemeni Army: More than 200 Houthis killed and wounded during battles in Taiz

The Yemeni Army announced on Wednesday evening that more than 200 members of the Houthi group were killed or wounded, an armed convoy was destroyed, a drone was shot down, and two tanks were disabled during battles in Taiz Governorate, in the southwest of the country.

This came in a statement issued by the Taiz Military Axis, published on its account on the American "X" platform, regarding the developments of the field situation in the governorate during the day (Wednesday).

The statement said that the Al-Dhabab front west of Taiz, and the Al-Aqrod and Al-Shaqab fronts south of the governorate, have witnessed continuous battles since Wednesday morning, which intensified in the afternoon.

It added that the battles witnessed what it described as "legendary steadfastness and rare heroism" by the army forces and the Popular Resistance in the Taiz axis.

It explained that the Houthi losses during the battles amounted to more than 200 killed and wounded, in addition to the destruction of an armed convoy and a vehicle, the disabling of two tanks, and the downing of a drone belonging to the group.

In the context of military operations, the statement reported that warplanes targeted a convoy including tanks, machinery, and vehicles belonging to the Houthis in the Ras al-Najd area in Al-Masrakh district, west of Taiz.

It indicated that the aviation launched two raids on the group's positions on Softel Hill, east of Taiz city.

It also launched two raids in the evening that targeted a tank and a vehicle belonging to the Houthis on the Al-Dhabab front west of the city, according to the statement.

There was no immediate comment from the Houthi group regarding what the Yemeni army reported.

Taiz Governorate is witnessing frequent confrontations between government forces and the Houthi group, within the framework of the ongoing conflict in Yemen for years.

This comes in conjunction with the continuation of the "Dawn of Yemen" military operation for the tenth day, an operation that the Chairman of the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council, Rashad Al-Alimi, said aims to restore state institutions and take control of the capital, Sanaa.

Yemen has been witnessing a military escalation since last July, the widest since the period of relative calm that followed a truce that began in April 2022.

Since September 2014, the Houthi group has controlled the capital, Sanaa, and several Yemeni governorates, before a military coalition led by Saudi Arabia intervened in March 2015 in support of the Yemeni government.
