Turkey.. A Pigeon Travels 480 Kilometers and Gifts Its Owner $16,300

A homing pigeon won first place in a competition in the province of Edirne in northwestern Turkey, earning its owner a cash prize of 800,000 Turkish Lira (approximately $16,300) and a championship cup.

The competition saw the participation of 1,354 homing pigeons, which were released from the district of "Dörtdivan" in the province of Bolu (northwest) to compete in the final stage, after participating in training and races over various distances throughout the season.

The pigeons covered a distance of about 480 kilometers to reach their nests in Edirne, with their arrival times recorded via an electronic system.

The positions of the competitors were determined based on the speed of the pigeon and the time it took to reach the nests.

The final results showed that the pigeon owned by Mete Güliç won first place, while Tayfun Çağlayandır's pigeon came in second, and Güray Arıgan's pigeon came in third.

Güliç received 800,000 Turkish Lira and the first-place cup, while the second-place winner received 300,000 Lira (approximately $6,200), and the third-place winner received 150,000 Lira (approximately $3,000), along with the designated cups for the winners.
