Galatasaray and Barcelona.. Why is it considered the most expensive match in the history of Turkish football?

Turkish press reports revealed that the match between Galatasaray and Spain's Barcelona, scheduled for Tuesday in the UEFA Champions League, has become the most expensive in the history of Turkish football in terms of ticket prices, with the most expensive ticket reaching 75,000 Turkish Lira.

The Turkish newspaper "Sözcü" reported on Monday that the Galatasaray vs. Barcelona match made history before it even kicked off, as ticket prices hit record levels without affecting the demand from the Turkish team's fans, who purchased all available tickets.

The match will be held at "Rams Park" stadium in Istanbul, with expectations of a full-capacity crowd to support the Turkish team against their Spanish guests.

According to the prices announced on the official "Passo" ticketing platform, ticket values ranged from 2,800 Turkish Lira (about $57) for the lowest category to 75,000 Lira (about $1,520) for the premium category, while other categories were priced at 50,000 Lira (about $1,014), 65,000 Lira (about $1,318), and 70,000 Lira (about $1,419).

For its part, the Turkish website "Sporx," citing the newspaper "Sözcü," reported that Galatasaray could generate revenues of up to approximately 250 million Turkish Lira ($5.07 million) from ticket sales and official club merchandise on the day of the match.

The match comes as part of the second round of the UEFA Champions League league phase, after Galatasaray lost its opening match against Portugal's Sporting CP with a score of 1-3.
