US President Donald Trump announced on Thursday that the United States will not launch any attack on Iran before the midterm congressional elections, scheduled for November 3.
In a post on his Truth Social account, Trump stated that Washington is holding productive talks with Tehran regarding the course of the war.
Trump explained that Iran is in a "very bad" situation economically and militarily, and that millions of barrels of oil pass daily through the Strait of Hormuz.
He added: "We will not attack Iran at any time before the midterm elections scheduled to be held in the United States on November 3."
On February 28, the United States and Israel launched a war on Iran, which left thousands dead. Tehran responded with attacks on Israel and US sites in the region, before a ceasefire was reached last April.
Later, the United States launched attacks on sites in Iran, amid a deadlock in negotiations between the two countries, despite their signing of a memorandum of understanding in mid-June.
The stalling of negotiations comes as a result of disputes over navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, which is considered one of the most important strategic corridors for global energy and commodity supplies.
