Trump to honor Musk with highest scientific award

The White House announced on Wednesday that US President Donald Trump intends to honor Elon Musk and other major tech company executives with the highest scientific award in a ceremony to be held on Thursday.

In addition to Musk, Trump will present the National Medal of Science during the "Science: A New Golden Age" summit to Sergey Brin, co-founder of Google, Jensen Huang, CEO of Nvidia, and Lisa Su, CEO of AMD.

Michael Dell (Dell Technologies) and Satya Nadella (Microsoft) will be honored with the National Medal of Technology and Innovation, the highest award in this field.

White House spokeswoman Liz Houston said in a statement obtained by Agence France-Presse (AFP) that "the Trump administration is grateful for the contributions of these remarkable leaders in the field of science and technology. Thanks to them, America remains at the forefront of innovation."

Musk, whose companies include SpaceX, Tesla, and X, was a close ally of Trump and a major donor to his election campaign before their relationship became strained last year over ways to reduce government spending.

He was also among a group of tech giant executives who attended a meeting at the White House last week with the President regarding ways to regulate artificial intelligence technology.

Musk, along with Huang and others, was invited to the dinner banquet hosted by Trump in honor of his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping during his official visit last month.
