Trabzonspor continued its winning streak in the Turkish Super Lig, after defeating its guest Beşiktaş 2-0 on Monday at Papara Park, in the conclusion of the eighth round of the competition.
Trabzonspor achieved its fourth consecutive victory, raising its tally to 16 points and moving up to fourth place in the standings, 3 points behind leaders Galatasaray, while Beşiktaş remained at 15 points, dropping to fifth place.
Ozan Tufan opened the scoring for the hosts in the 21st minute with a direct left-footed shot from inside the penalty area, following up on a rebound from German goalkeeper Alexander Nübel of Beşiktaş.
Guinean Franculino Djú almost doubled his team's lead in the 38th minute after receiving a pass from Albanian Ernest Muçi and firing a powerful left-footed shot from the right side of the six-yard box, but Nübel saved it brilliantly.
Beşiktaş responded with a dangerous attempt in the 42nd minute, when Belgian Leandro Trossard unleashed a powerful shot saved by Cameroonian André Onana, the Trabzonspor goalkeeper, with the ball rebounding to Panamanian Amir Murillo, who followed up with a second shot that hit the post before the defense intervened and cleared it for a corner kick.
In the second half, Egyptian star Mohamed Salah extended Trabzonspor's lead by scoring the second goal in the 71st minute, after Franculino Djú broke down the left flank, bypassing a Beşiktaş defender before sending a precise cross that Salah converted with his left foot into the net.
The 34-year-old Salah raised his tally to 8 goals, taking sole possession of the top scorer list in the competition, one goal ahead of Nigerian Gift Emmanuel Orban, Kosovan Vedat Muriqi, and Uzbek Eldor Shomurodov.
Salah almost added his second personal goal in the 83rd minute after Nübel saved a shot from Portuguese substitute Savio following a one-on-one, with the ball rebounding to the Egyptian star who followed up with another shot, but the German goalkeeper shone again and saved his goal from a third.
