Tightening the noose on the West Bank

Hebron is now under a tight siege and declared a closed military zone, hundreds of families are homeless, and the occupation is launching its largest operations since 1967, amid a wide field escalation that included evacuating homes, demolishing facilities, and launching arrest campaigns. This reflects an Israeli tendency to expand military operations in the occupied West Bank and apply a military model previously used in the northern West Bank camps.

West of Hebron, a military operation has begun based on evacuating residents, conducting house-to-house searches, and destroying what Israel calls the infrastructure of terrorism in "Farsh al-Hawa" west of Hebron, alongside restricting the movement of residents and imposing tight constraints on their mobility.

Developments are not limited to Hebron, but also include Israeli military movements in other areas of the West Bank, and in various parts against dozens of Palestinian targets. Of course, all of this means transferring the model of military operations that Israel applied in the northern West Bank camps to wider and more densely populated urban areas. The Israeli restrictions encompass and target education, transportation, labor, road closures, home evacuations, and threats to facilities and properties.

Hebron Governorate is home to about 860,000 Palestinians, and during the recent operation west of Hebron, about 100 families were displaced. This raises fears of the expansion of displacement and the transformation of temporary Israeli measures into a long-term field reality, imposing a policy of restriction on Palestinians in a governorate considered the backbone of the economic movement in the West Bank.

Jordan has warned, on more than one occasion, event, and speech, against all of this. His Majesty King Abdullah II drew attention to the ongoing Israeli escalation in the West Bank and the thwarting of numerous attempts at calm and delivering humanitarian aid to Gaza, which remains under bombardment, destruction, killing, and displacement. This did not please those who stand on the side of flagrant aggression against the Palestinian people, who have the right to live on the soil of their pure homeland.

His Majesty stressed the danger of attacks against Christians in Gaza and the West Bank, and reaffirmed the Hashemite Custodianship over Islamic and Christian holy sites, protecting Christians and ensuring their rights to their properties and lives.

The restrictions in the West Bank carry clear indications of annexation and displacement, which Jordan has categorically rejected in entirety and detail, to preserve Palestinian rights, the sovereignty of the Jordanian state, and its firm and steadfast positions toward the just Palestinian cause.

Awareness, vigilance, patience, and balance are a Jordanian policy and an impregnable fortress to counter the wicked conspiracies against Jordan and its people. Perhaps what His Majesty conveyed during his inspection visit to the injured in the Hammoud crime in Karak carries military connotations, with all the authentic Hashemite anger and the pledge to protect precious and dear Jordanian blood.

Tightening the noose in the West Bank is a dangerous indicator that must be addressed with firmness, severity, and strength.
