Three ships were hit by "unidentified" projectiles while crossing the Strait of Hormuz on Tuesday, according to the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) on Wednesday.
The authority, which monitors maritime traffic, reported that an oil tanker and two cargo ships were hit by "unidentified" projectiles.
UKMTO initially reported that an LNG carrier was hit in the attack, before clarifying in a second statement that the vessel in question was a cargo ship.
The Strait of Hormuz, vital for global oil supplies, is central to the war between the United States and Iran that erupted seven months ago.
Iran almost completely closes the strait, with mines or by targeting ships passing through it without coordination, while Washington is besieging Iranian ports.
