Attack targets two tankers while crossing the Strait of Hormuz

Two tankers were attacked on Friday while crossing the Strait of Hormuz, according to the UK Maritime Trade Operations Authority, in the latest threat to maritime traffic in the strategic waterway.

In the first attack, the authority said the captain reported that the tanker was "struck by an unidentified projectile while sailing out of the strait, resulting in a small fire and power outage on board"

It added that "the fire was extinguished, and the ship is continuing its journey", noting that there were no reports of injuries or environmental impact.

Hours later, a crude oil tanker reported being struck by an "unknown projectile" east of Oman, also without injuries to the crew or environmental damage, according to the British authority.

The authority stated that authorities are investigating these incidents.

The Strait of Hormuz, which was a passage for about a fifth of global energy supplies before the war, has become the center of the conflict ignited by the United States and Israel in late February with strikes against Iran.

Since then, the Islamic Republic has obstructed maritime traffic in the strait and fired at ships it accuses of crossing unauthorized routes, while Washington imposes a blockade on Iranian ports in response.
