The British Maritime Trade Operations Authority announced on Monday that an LNG tanker leaving the Strait of Hormuz was hit by fragments from unknown projectiles.
The authority clarified that the tanker will continue its journey to the next port of call, adding that all crew members are safe.
Navigation in the Strait of Hormuz saw a sharp decline at the beginning of the week, amid ongoing tensions between the United States and Iran and escalating fears of renewed military operations between the two sides, casting a shadow over shipping traffic through one of the most important waterways for global energy trade.
Shipping data on Monday showed that 12 cargo ships crossed the Strait on Saturday and Sunday, compared to 35 ships at the beginning of the previous week, according to preliminary data.
The figures do not include some ships that may have crossed the Strait after turning off their Automatic Identification System (AIS) transmitters to avoid detection, meaning the actual number of ships crossing may be higher
