The War of Awareness and Trust

Fourth-generation warfare takes many forms, including: the form of a terrorist organization backed by intelligence agencies, equipped with the latest weapons and equipment. The glaring model of this type of terrorist organization is ISIS.

This war may also take the form of psychological operations through negative rumors, which seek to convince citizens of their poor economic and social conditions, pushing them to take to the streets in protest against these conditions, and then mobilizing the crowds in the street and directing them according to the objectives of those driving the fourth-generation war. In many cases, street mobilization can be exploited for bloodshed to fuel anger.

Jordan has suffered greatly over the past years from this form of fourth-generation warfare, through its exposure to successive waves of rumors aimed at spreading an atmosphere of frustration, shaking confidence in the state and its institutions, and encroaching upon them. These rumors constituted a major source for social media platforms targeting Jordan, as they excessively and incitedly focus on unemployment, poverty, nepotism, and corruption on one hand, and with an inciting tone on the other.

Fourth-generation warfare may also take the form of civil society organizations that constitute a security breach, especially those foreign-funded ones which play a pivotal role in fourth-generation wars through their role in stirring up controversial issues within society, inciting it against its state, and weakening it from within. This is done by raising controversial issues, and through the role of these organizations in relying on foreign powers against national states. A glaring example of the role of these organizations against their state is what happened in Egypt at the end of Hosni Mubarak's rule.

Just as rumors were used against the Jordanian state, civil society institutions were similarly used in the war against Jordan, through the work of these foreign-funded institutions to distort Jordan's image, especially in issues of human rights and public freedoms, and portraying Jordanian society as a murderous society through the so-called honor crimes falsely and slanderously attributed to Jordan. Furthermore, these organizations have become a tool to rely on foreign powers against the Jordanian state and to interfere in its internal affairs by imposing foreign agendas on it, particularly in the social sphere, in addition to suspicious political agendas.

Likewise, the fourth generation of wars takes the form of continuous pressure on the state, keeping its society in a constant state of tension, in order to pressure this state through its economic conditions, as well as highlighting and exaggerating the mistakes of its officials and using them to incite against the state, alongside distorting the image of its army and security apparatuses and falsifying their true image.

The observer and follower do not need long contemplation or great effort to discover the volume of pressure exerted on Jordan over the past years, whether through the economic siege, focusing on and exaggerating officials' mistakes, inciting against state institutions, or seeking to distort the image of security institutions in particular under the cover of attacking the so-called "security grip" and the necessity of getting rid of it.

And if our weapon in traditional wars is the machine gun, cannon, tank, and airplane, then our weapon in electronic wars is awareness, self-confidence, and trust in the homeland.
