The Speech from the Throne.. The King outlines the features of a strong Jordan

The Speech from the Throne delivered by His Majesty King Abdullah II on Monday, at the opening of the third ordinary session of the 20th Parliament, was not merely a speech to open a new parliamentary session; rather, it served as a comprehensive national and political message that outlined the features of the coming phase and defined the state's priorities in facing challenges.

At the beginning of his speech, His Majesty placed Jordan's security and unity at the forefront of the scene, recalling the terrorist attack that the Karak Governorate witnessed, and affirming that the hand of terrorism will not undermine the solidity of the state or the determination of Jordanians, and that the perpetrators of these crimes do not represent the Jordanian family and have no place among the people of this homeland.

His Majesty’s call to stand for a minute of silence for the souls of the martyrs of Karak was an expression of loyalty to their sacrifices, and an affirmation that the blood of the martyrs will remain a trust and a pledge around the necks of Jordanians.

In a profound message that carried much confidence and pride, His Majesty renewed his bet on the Jordanian individual, as the strongest pillar in protecting the nation and safeguarding its achievements, praising the heroism of the members of the Jordanian Armed Forces – the Arab Army and the security services, who constitute the impenetrable shield of the nation.

On the Arab level, the speech carried a clear renewal of Jordanian constants towards the issues of the nation, foremost among them the Palestinian cause. His Majesty emphasized that security and stability in the region will not be achieved without the Palestinian people obtaining their legitimate rights on their land. He also placed the international community before its responsibilities regarding the continuation of the humanitarian catastrophe in the Gaza Strip, and the violations and assaults in the West Bank and Jerusalem, warning that Israeli expansionist ambitions represent a serious threat to the future of the region. In words that carried deep political and moral connotations, His Majesty stressed that peoples will not forget, that tyranny does not create legitimacy, and that time does not erase the truth.

Regarding domestic affairs, His Majesty reaffirmed the importance of Parliament as a fundamental pillar of political life and a partner in consolidating the principle that the nation is the source of powers, calling on the members of the council to elevate their legislative and oversight performance, and to prioritize the national interest over narrow calculations. His message to the deputies was not limited to lawmaking, but extended to the necessity for the council's behavior and rhetoric to be at the level of the Jordanians' trust, and for differences of opinion to transform into a source of strength and enrichment for democratic life, not a cause for division and polarization.

Economically and developmentally, His Majesty placed the citizen at the heart of priorities, confirming that the interest of the Jordanian must not be on the margins of decisions, but at their core and goal. True development, according to His Majesty’s vision, is not just numbers, indicators, and announced projects, but a tangible impact reflected in people's lives, through improving the standard of living, providing job opportunities, advancing education and healthcare, and enhancing opportunities for future generations.

And because security in its comprehensive concept is not limited to protecting borders and facing threats, His Majesty devoted exceptional space in his speech to water security, when he repeated the phrase "water, water, water," in a clear confirmation that this file represents a national priority that does not tolerate delay or compromise. He directed the government to continue implementing water security projects and to develop proactive plans to protect resources and ensure their sustainability, in a message that reflects a royal awareness of the magnitude of water challenges and the necessity of dealing with them as an issue of sovereignty, security, and the future of Jordanians.

In the context of consolidating the state of institutions and the rule of law, His Majesty's message was firm regarding public office, emphasizing that there is no place for those who treat it as a privilege or an honor, rather than a responsibility and service to citizens, and that there is no immunity for those who misuse their position or influence, regardless of their name or rank.

His Majesty concluded his speech with a message of confidence and love to the Jordanians, confirming that the door of the homeland is open to sincere and responsible opinion, and that disagreement within the framework of the constitution and respect for others represents a facet of the society's strength. Between trust in the people and pride in their belonging, the philosophy of governance is manifested, based on the partnership between the leadership and the citizen, and that Jordan derives its greatness from the cohesion of its people and their loyalty to their land.
