The Quad Summit in Egypt Rejects Harming Nile Basin Countries and Supporting 'Mercenaries' in Sudan

The Quad Consultative Summit in Egypt, on Sunday evening, affirmed the rejection of harming the Nile Basin countries (Egypt and Sudan), emphasizing support for Sudan's unity and the rejection of any support provided to 'mercenaries'.

This was stated in a joint declaration by the Egyptian Presidency on its official Facebook page, issued by Egypt, Sudan, Eritrea, and Somalia, following a summit that brought together the leaders of these countries in the city of El Alamein, northern Egypt.

The four countries affirmed their rejection of interference in the internal affairs of the region's countries under any pretext, emphasizing 'support for Sudan's unity, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national institutions, in addition to the complete rejection of any support for mercenaries'.

They pointed to 'support for Somalia's unity and sovereignty, and the rejection of any intervention or measures that target the unity of its territory and national sovereignty, as well as the rejection of any recognition or support for the so-called Somaliland'.

The four countries affirmed the principle of freedom of navigation, and that the governance of the Red Sea is the exclusive responsibility of the bordering countries.

They emphasized 'the complete rejection of any unilateral measures that harm the existing water uses of the Nile Basin countries'.

The leaders of the Quad Consultative Summit between Egypt, Eritrea, Sudan, and Somalia decided 'to hold the summit periodically and whenever necessary, and to establish a follow-up mechanism for the outcomes'.
