Saudi Arabia intercepts 11 ballistic missiles, a cruise missile, and two drones

The coalition forces supporting the Yemeni government announced on Sunday the interception and destruction of 11 ballistic missiles, a cruise missile, and two drones launched by the Houthi militia toward Saudi Arabia.

The official spokesman for the coalition forces stated that air defenses intercepted and destroyed 10 ballistic missiles launched toward the southern region, in addition to a cruise missile that targeted the city of Khamis Mushait.

He added that air defenses intercepted a ballistic missile and two drones in the Riyadh region.

These developments come amid an escalation of attacks that Saudi Arabia attributes to the Houthi militia, after the group announced on Saturday that it had targeted Saudi oil facilities, airports, and military sites.

Twenty-two people have been killed in attacks targeting Saudi airports since the beginning of this month, according to information contained in reports.

The authorities had announced on Saturday the resumption of flights at the airport starting Sunday, after a two-week closure, but it was not clear whether air traffic had actually resumed.

The Houthis and Saudi Arabia are exchanging attacks, while clashes between the group and Yemeni government forces continue since the resumption of fighting in Yemen in July.
