On Sunday, Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan discussed with his Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araqchi, the recent escalation in the region and the efforts being made regarding it, amid ongoing military tensions in the region.
This came during a phone call received by bin Farhan from Araqchi, according to a statement published by the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the American company "X" platform.
The ministry said the call addressed "the recent escalation in the region and the efforts being made regarding it."
The statement did not provide additional details about the nature of the efforts discussed by the two ministers or the results of the call.
The call comes amid a military escalation in the region, including repeated attacks on Saudi airports and tensions in navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.
King Khalid International Airport in the capital Riyadh was attacked on Saturday, resulting in the death of 13 people and the injury of hundreds of others.
On Sunday, the Saudi-led coalition supporting legitimacy in Yemen accused the Houthi group of carrying out the Saturday attack on the airport, vowing to respond firmly.
In the regional context, navigation in the Strait of Hormuz is experiencing disruptions due to restrictions imposed by Iran on the passage of ships since April 2026 following the US-Israeli war waged by the two countries against Iran in February of the same year.
