The Vice Chairman of the Amman Chamber of Industry, Dima Sakhtian, opened on Wednesday a dialogue session entitled "Opportunities and Challenges of Substituting Local Labor for Expatriate Labor in the Food, Chemical, Plastic, and Packaging Industries Sectors," in the presence of the Director General of the Vocational Training Corporation, Engineer Raafat Al-Sawafin, the Director General of the Chamber, Dr. Nael Al-Husam, and with the participation of a number of representatives of industrial establishments.
Sakhtian emphasized the Jordanian industrial sector's keenness to give priority in employment to the national workforce, pointing out that 90% of workers in the industrial sector are Jordanians.
The session discussed the needs of the targeted industrial sectors for professions, specializations, and technical skills, and the challenges facing the employment of Jordanian labor in these sectors, in addition to discussing ways to ensure the alignment of vocational training programs with labor market requirements, contributing to the preparation of qualified national cadres capable of engaging in industrial work.
The discussions also focused on developing mechanisms for partnership and cooperation between the industrial sector and the Vocational Training Corporation, and enhancing the role of industrial establishments in identifying their actual needs for labor and skills, which helps design practical training programs that respond to the requirements of factories and increase employment opportunities for vocational training graduates.
This session comes within the framework of efforts aimed at enhancing integration between training institutions and the industrial sector, linking training outputs to actual labor market needs, supporting the employment of Jordanian labor, contributing to reducing reliance on expatriate labor in professions where local competencies can be qualified to fill them, as well as enhancing the productivity of industrial establishments and their competitiveness.
