Review of Jordan Students' International Results (1)

Ninety-one countries and economies participated in the test, including seven Arab countries: Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Morocco, the United Arab Emirates, Lebanon, and Palestine. The average overall performance of the participating educational systems was as follows: (Science: 482) (Mathematics: 463) (Reading: 461) (Problem Solving: 500). Jordan students' results in the test according to the four fields were as follows: (Science: 407) (Mathematics: 388) (Reading: 363) (Problem Solving: 408), meaning that the differences between the results of our students and the average of the OECD countries were: (Science: -75) (Mathematics: -75) (Reading: -98) (Problem Solving: -92).

Our education system's ranking according to the (PISA 2025) results compared to Arab education systems was after the UAE, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia, followed by Lebanon, the Palestinian Authority, and Morocco, respectively. Jordan students' performance compared to students worldwide was ranked (69) out of (91) participating educational systems in science, (56) out of (81) educational systems tested in this field in mathematics, (72) out of (81) countries participating in measuring their students' reading ability in reading, and finally, our students were ranked (35) out of (50) countries in the problem-solving test.

Overall, the (PISA 2025) results indicate a modest performance of our students in all test areas. However, the most notable aspect of Jordan students' results is the clear improvement between the (2022) and (2025) cycles of the same test, while the results of many countries declined. Jordan increased in science by (32) points, mathematics by (26) points, and reading by (20) points. The OECD describes Jordan's improvement in science and mathematics as one of the largest improvements among participants, while the improvement in reading was the largest among comparable countries/economies in this indicator.

Yes, Jordan has improved noticeably, but it is still far from the international benchmark performance level. Therefore, the most that can be concluded from the careful reading of our students' performance compared to their international counterparts in the (PISA 2025) version, as well as their performance compared to the previous version, is to study and analyze the reasons for the noticeable improvement and build upon it according to a clear methodology and strategy that includes reviewing and evaluating the curricula, educational practices, and assessment methods in our education system.
