Her Royal Highness Princess Sumaya Bint Al-Hassan, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of Princess Sumaya University of Technology, sponsored the university's celebrations for the graduation of the 32nd batch, which witnessed the granting of a Honorary Doctorate to the university's graduate Amjad Masaad, the founder and CEO of "Replit", by the decision of the university's board of trustees, in appreciation of his achievements and contributions in the fields of technology and entrepreneurship.
Masaad graduated from the Computer Science program at Princess Sumaya University of Technology in 2010, then founded Replit, a technology company that allows individuals to develop software and collaborate on it, and the company is currently valued at approximately 9 billion US dollars. His journey from the university to the global technology sector represents a model for the integration of Jordanian competencies, technological knowledge, and entrepreneurial ambition.
In her speech to the graduates, Her Royal Highness highlighted Masaad's journey as an example of what ambition and perseverance can achieve, and urged the new graduates not to set a ceiling for their ambitions, but to be courageous and knowledgeable to imagine the future and contribute to its creation.
Her Royal Highness affirmed that the university's mission is not to repeat what exists but to anticipate what is coming and to place science, technology, and innovation at the service of Jordan and its future, adding that investing in knowledge and in the scientific and technological capabilities of the Kingdom forms the basis of national development.
Her Royal Highness added that the university's mission has gained special importance coinciding with Jordan's celebration of the eightieth anniversary of its independence, which places the achievements of Jordanian graduates in a broader national and global context.
She said: "If yesterday's independence means sovereignty over the land, then today's independence also means sovereignty over knowledge; to be among those who make technology, not just consumers of it, and to be among those who program the future, not to let the future program us".
Her Royal Highness recalled the role of the Royal Scientific Society, the parent institution of Princess Sumaya University of Technology, in advancing science, technology, and knowledge in Jordan. The Society was founded in 1970 with the vision of His Royal Highness Prince Hassan Bin Talal, by the royal will of the late King Hussein Bin Talal, may God rest his soul, based on their conviction that science, technology, and knowledge are essential for building Jordan and preparing it for the future.
Her Royal Highness said: "Building Jordan means building the minds of its people", affirming that the university must anticipate the future and not be content with teaching technology, but must contribute to its innovation and utilization to serve humanity and the nation.
Her Royal Highness emphasized that technology needs management to reach the markets and create sustainable value, while management needs technology to enhance its competitiveness, reflecting the importance of the integrated work between different disciplines at the university.
Her Royal Highness said that the university's graduates should not measure their success solely by professional achievement, but by the positive impact they leave on people's lives and their homeland.
She called on the university's graduates to carry their knowledge, values, university, and the name of Jordan throughout their professional journey.
The university president, Dr. Abu Al-Heja, highlighted a number of developments that reflect the university's continued focus on technology and innovation, including the accreditation of the King Talal College of Business Technology (EQUIS) for institutional excellence, and the launch of the second phase of the smart knowledge system, making the university the first in Jordan to integrate artificial intelligence models within its digital system, through the operation of a Large Language Model on campus, and the establishment of Defendexe, the first company spun off from the university specializing in cybersecurity.
The university also developed the VerifyX system for digital signatures based on blockchain technology to enhance the security of documents, the reliability of digital transactions, and to expedite administrative procedures. Graduate research at the university has increasingly focused on national challenges through problem-solving theses.
The university also launched, in partnership with the Jordan Kuwait Bank and national technology institutions, a cyber security operations education center (SoC Lab), the first of its kind in Jordanian universities, which places our students in a realistic simulation environment and provides them with advanced practical training in threat detection, data protection, and securing digital infrastructure.
The university president, Dr. Wejdan Abu Al-Heja, said that the university's 35-year journey has been based on a commitment to excellence and leadership, guided by the vision of Her Royal Highness Princess Sumaya and her focus on investing in human capital.
The closing ceremony honored former Minister Marwan Jumaa for his 17 years of service to the university, since joining the Board of Trustees in 2009, where he served as Vice Chairman of the Board for eight years, and Jumaa played an active role in the strategic, academic, and institutional development of the university.
The university celebrated the achievements of its two female doctoral graduates, Remah Bani Younis and Yasmin Al-Sulami, in the field of computer science.
Among the students honored were Seden Marei, from the accounting program, who achieved the highest academic achievement at the university level, and Celine Qarja, from the network and information security engineering program, who received the Princess Sumaya Bint Al-Hassan Award for the Outstanding Student, and Dania Al-Lawzi, the designer of the official uniform worn by the Jordanian national football team, "Al-Nashama", during its historic participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
