The organizing committee for the "As-Salt Narrative: History and Civilization" held a press conference today, Monday, at the As-Salt Development Foundation to announce the events of the National Day for the As-Salt Narrative initiative, scheduled to be held on October 24 in As-Salt, under the initiative of the Levant Christians Association in Jordan, and in partnership with official and civil institutions and community activities.
She explained that the choice of As-Salt comes in appreciation of its historical status and what it represents as an authentic Jordanian model of diversity, tolerance, and coexistence, noting its inclusion in 2021 on the UNESCO World Heritage List under the title "As-Salt: The Place of Tolerance and Urban Hospitality."
The initiative aims to highlight the ancient history of the city of As-Salt and its cultural and human heritage, shed light on the contributions of its people to building the Jordanian state, and strengthen the collective national identity and document the Jordanian memory.
The event program, which kicks off at 10:00 AM at the As-Salt Secondary School for Boys, includes a documentary film about the city, artistic and heritage segments, and a discussion session with the participation of historians, researchers, and academics, in addition to field tours of historical sites, markets, old houses, and stairways.
The program also includes a presentation of the traditional As-Salti wedding, while the events will conclude at 4:00 PM at the As-Salt Historical Museum with the presentation of recommendations and proposals related to the Jordanian narrative, contributing to the preservation of heritage and enhancing the presence of As-Salt in the national memory.
